2024 marks the 85th anniversary of Germany's invasion of Poland and thus the beginning of the Second World War. According to the 2022 Memo study, the majority of the German population considers the Second World War to be one of the most significant historical events. When asked which countries they associate with the Second World War apart from Germany, around 60% of respondents answered ‘Poland’; only France achieved a higher score. At the same time, however, there are repeated complaints that concrete knowledge not only about the war, but above all about the German occupation of Germany, needs to be extended. The event, marking the 85th anniversary of the German invasion of Poland and the start of the Second World War, aims to address this concern.
