Bozhena Kozakevych

Historian | History of Central and Eastern Europe

Bozhena Kozakevych is a historian of twentieth-century Central and Eastern Europe. Her research explores the entangled histories of Polish, German, Ukrainian, and Jewish communities, with a particular focus on memory cultures, the politics of history, and the history of the Second World War. She was involved in the project “Preserving Memory,” within the framework of which twelve memorial sites for murdered Jews and three memorial sites for murdered Romnja and Roma were established in Ukraine. In addition, she taught and conducted research at the Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies. Her doctoral dissertation is titled “Jews and Christians: Soviet Religious Policy in Multiethnic Berdychiv (1921–1964).” Since March 2026, she has been working as a research associate for the German-Polish House at the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
